Decked in their Dior best and dressed to impress, the who’s who of the regional style circuit gathered in Dubai to witness a one-of-a-kind couture event last night. The legendary fashion house landed in Dubai for the first time ever, showcasing its Spring 2019 Couture collection dubbed #DiorDreamParade for its whimsical and otherworldly interpretation of all things circus.
Guests walked past fire-spinners to enter a literal big tent with harlequin-checked flooring and were treated to the new Dior Spring 2019 Couture collection, which was rounded off with 15 new looks created specifically for Dubai. The new pieces included everything from rainbow-bright garments to separates topped off with plissé capes, while all of the looks came finished with glittering skull caps and sparkling shoes. As the show came to a close, the models wearing said 15 looks arranged themselves in rows while editors, influencers, clients, and VIPs snapped the perfect shot for social media, with Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri joining them after her final walk.
Suddenly, a cannon boom sounded throughout the room as confetti shot through the air and a crimson curtain behind the models parted to reveal a room where towering desserts, acrobats, unicyclers, and a dance floor beckoned partygoers to revel in the circus atmosphere. The event immediately took an exhilarating turn as the models who walked the show soon joined guests on the dance floor while the music pulsed late into the night.
While it was an incredible evening, the most interesting facet of the event was that Dior was in Dubai at all – not to display a new perfume or lipstick range, but to bring an authentic Paris-level experience to a Middle East audience. Not only does the presence of such a storied house legitimize and amplify our growing stature in the global fashion community, but it also proves just how far our region has come when it comes to cultural offerings.
