A few years ago, when we thought of Céline Dion – and granted it wasn’t that often – we thought of her as the Las Vegas headliner with the golden pipes, famous for her contribution to the Titanic soundtrack. As far as style icons go, she was nowhere to be found on the list. However, something remarkable happened that has completely changed our minds.
After Dion’s husband passed away in 2016, the singer went through a period of grieving. And then, she appeared suddenly on the fashion landscape – like a rare bird of paradise – in exhilarating looks that had the establishment tripping over themselves to shoot her, dress her, and feature her. In less time than it takes for one of her singles to climb to the top of the charts, the Canadian singer has become a bona fide icon, and her signature is the incredible joy and appreciation she brings to her genuine love of fashion.
She was moved to tears by the beauty of Valentino’s Spring 2019 Couture collection. At other presentations, you can see her sitting in the front row, cheering, laughing, and clapping in rapturous awe. Clearly, she is living her best life. She seems to revel in the fabulous outfits she wears, preening in fabulous, vibrant looks by the likes of Gucci, Amato Couture, and Maison Rabih Kayrouz – but not pretentiously so. Her charming enthusiasm for the craft is positively infectious, shining a bright spotlight on fashion just when everything started to seem rather stale.
When Dion emerges in a wildly patterned suit, a maximal silhouette, or even an exotic print from top to toe, we find ourselves enthralled by her fearless embrace of a huge variety of styles. In fact, we can’t think of a single other celebrity who seems to love clothes as much as Dion, nor any star who wears them quite as well. In the gallery, below, you’ll see today’s birthday girl in some of her best looks from the past few years – and you won’t be able to help but fall in love with her earnest passion. We did.
