Just when we thought Kate Middleton and the late Princess Diana couldn’t have more in common, we’re proven wrong yet again! A love for charitable initiatives, classic designs, and – as evidenced by a recent public appearance – a strong preference for the ‘Cambridge Lover’s Knot’ tiara. A favorite of Princess Di, this sparkling heirloom was worn by the Duchess of Cambridge for the Queen’s Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace. Pairing it with a crystal-embellished dress and pearl-drop earrings, she turned heads while greeting some of the nearly 1,000 guests in attendance.

Previously worn by the late Duchess of Wales on several occasions – a trip to meet with Saudi royalty in 1986 included – the dazzling tiara is quite the masterpiece of design. Adorned with glitzy diamonds and the signature dropped pearl accents, it has a long history dating back to 1914. Not only was it a wedding gift for Princess Diana, but it was initially made for Queen Mary by the House of Garrand by refurbishing jewels from the ‘Ladies of England’ tiara. It seems the Duchess is effortlessly following in the footsteps of the royals who came before her.
