When it was announced that Italian ingenue Riccardo Tisci would take helm of Burberry in March of 2018, the fashion world was thrilled at the new possibilities for the classically English label. Although Christopher Bailey’s departure after a 17-year tenure was a surprise to many and Tisci had big shoes to fill, it also meant that he would be bringing his fresh perspective to the intrinsically British fashion house.
The inaugural collection made waves at London Fashion Week, being both critically and publicly well-received, but nothing has been as impactful as the love he’s gotten from some of the biggest names in fashion. Numerous pieces have already been scooped up by the likes of model Irina Shayk, Kendall Jenner, Madonna, Carey Mulligan, Julia Roberts, and even Rihanna (who recently wore a silk camel trench dress to a Fenty event in Dubai). The Thomas Burberry monogramed tee is also a particular favorite of the celebs.
The debut looks were an ode to England’s vast design history that’s infamous for the impeccable work of its Savile Row tailors and the experimental rebellion of the punk era. Tasked with taking the brand into the next generation, the Tisci-Burberry era looks very promising.
