The big news is out, the angels have spoken, and women around the world are rejoicing! Victoria’s Secret has once again tapped a major (major!) high-end designer to collaborate with for its annual fashion show. After a successful venture with Balmain in 2017, UK-based Mary Katrantzou has been announced as the designer for the lingerie retailers second high-fashion capsule collection.
It’s only been a few weeks since Katrantzou, known as the ‘Queen of Prints’ for her powerful and punchy designs, celebrated her 10th year of showing at London Fashion Week — and her star is about to rise even higher. With a keen eye for kaleidoscopic patterns and vibrant prints, Katrantzou’s aesthetic feels like a complimentary fit for the lingerie powerhouse. We predict a flurry of hypnotic yet seductive designs, delicate wings, and of perhaps, even the infamous Fantasy Bra.
Dubbed the “female Superbowl”, this marks the 23rd year of the cultural phenomenon that brought in nearly 5 million views last year and surprises aplenty. With some wings taking up to 500 hours to create, the elaborate costumes aren’t for sale but the intimate sets designed by Katrantzou will be available for purchase just in time for the 2018 holiday season.
As of this moment, the musical performer for the angel-filled televised event has yet to be announced but with past appearances by the likes of Rihanna, Harry Styles, The Weeknd and Ariana Grande, this year is bound to be one for the ages.
We can’t wait to see the heavenly bodies that will grace the catwalk that is scheduled to make its return to New York on November 8. As more announcements are bound to come, watch this space to learn the latest.
