They say all good things come to those who wait and, when it comes to the signature sexy aesthetic of Dolce & Gabanna, we couldn’t agree more. After dabbling in modest designs – the label launched a hijab and abaya collection in 2016 – it has been a long time coming, but the Sicilian duo is finally in Dubai for their first ever runway show in the Middle East. And tonight’s the big night. Marrying Arabian inspiration with Italian mastery, the ‘Day & Night’ spectacular has us buzzing. Here’s what we know so far.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will be in attendance to commemorate the inaugural event as well as the recent opening of their flagship boutique. Lovers of excess and drama, the founding fathers aren’t shy about putting on a show – and a show they will give! Over 100 male and female models have arrived in the city, and 128 outfits are expected to walk, half of which have been specifically designed for the region. In a venue perfectly fitted for the occasion, the ‘Fashion Avenue’ in The Dubai Mall will have space for both invited attendees and those who want to witness the extravaganza from designated viewing spots.
During a private press event before the show, the duo expressed the importance they place on authenticity: “The show for Dubai is just for Dubai; you cannot see the same clothes anywhere else.” Utilizing brocade, gold, and lace, the looks will articulate an homage to Arabia. And not only will the models reflect the region, but the clothing will also cater to the Middle Eastern woman. Hijabs, abayas, and more modest garments will be showcased to exemplify what women can expect when they walk into Dolce & Gabbana’s flagship boutique.
The Italian duo’s love affair with the region is no secret. Having visited Dubai countless times over the past 12 years, and adding ‘Velvet Desert Oud’ to their ‘Velvet’ perfume collection in 2013, it was only a matter of time before they hosted a show here. Watch this space for more details about tonight’s event.
