We’re not done exploring the human mind; in fact, we’ve only just begun. However, as theories of psychology, metaphysics, and epistemology develop, a sort of Grand Unified theory emerges, literally. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that we are all fundamentally interconnected, either at the atomic or conscious level – or both. For Spring/Summer 2019, designer Jonathan Anderson tugged that thread, the one that binds us all together in some common cause, for his exemplary Loewe presentation.

The Loewe brand, now comfortably defined as an arts-and-crafts oriented outing for the intellectual types who still want their wardrobes to have a kick of “It” factor, has blossomed under Anderson’s leadership. This time around, he built upon the bedrock of collaged-together fabrics and flouncy silhouettes with a mind toward connection – namely connecting a group of individuals wandering around an art gallery who shared a common raison d’etre.

As much as she is there to peruse the art on the walls, she is a work of art herself.

They were represented by a boundless interest in mixing and matching that which does not belong together: stripe-y raw sheaths teamed with fetishistic collar necklaces, a plume of feathers and a rough saddlebag, nomadic vests and track pants, suede Peter Pan-collar shirts with dusky desert boots, a collegiate rugby sweater elongated into a sophisticated dress, air-brushed denim separates – the variations are endless. As much as she is there to peruse the art on the walls, she is a work of art herself. The collection was luxe, easy, and inspired, particularly when it came to the fragile dresses that closed the show. Loewe’s new motto could easily be, “She thinks, therefore she is, and she is fabulous.”
