Missoni is a global brand with household name recognition – thanks in large part to its iconic ‘Fiammato’ chevron pattern – that has managed to stay a relatively small business until now. Under Angela Missoni’s leadership, it has remained a family affair, but a recent sale of a 41.2 percent stake in the company to private equity firm FSI has rapidly changed the nature of Missoni’s mission. The investment means that it can now go mass, and it means a strategic pivot towards becoming a full-fledged lifestyle brand.

For Spring/Summer 2019, Missoni celebrated 65 years of existence, and its future has never looked brighter. It launched with fine-gauge knitwear in 1953, and it hasn’t strayed too far from its DNA ever since. The modern Missoni still speaks to the jet-setting crowd, but this soft-focus collection promoted a new layer of luxury to its typical haute hippie selection.

Gentle woven separates – delicately etched with tiny crocheted leaves, muted pastel prints, and ropey accents – were absolutely dreamy additions to the collection’s many separates and layers. Shot through with filigreed thread, tailored to relaxed proportions, and imbued with a nomadic ease, these pastel-hued looks were good enough to eat. Missoni’s triumphant Spring/Summer 2019 collection underscored 65 years worth of knitwear excellence, proving that this small company is primed for expansion and ripe with possibility.
