If you’ve ever been fortunate enough to visit all four fashion capitals – New York, London, Milan, and Paris – during the month-long event that everyone calls “Fashion Week”, you know that one of the weeks feels a lot different than the others. We’re speaking, of course, of the wild younger sister to NYFW: London Fashion Week, the energy and eclecticism of which is very much rooted in the city of its birth.
London is where innovation and experimentation are found in fashion houses both refined and rebellious. It’s where punk was born and where it continues to exist in unmarked basement clubs in Soho. It’s where Alexander McQueen, living as a Savile Row tailor, once sewed epithets into the Prince’s clothes. It’s also where Vivienne Westwood met the Queen of England while refusing to wear pants.
In order to reflect the personality of LFW, we turn to the streets, where guests filed into shows wearing the latest trends. In London, those trends ran the gamut from plaid suits and structured totes to massively oversized hoodies and lovely printed frocks. If you’re in browsing mode, our packed gallery will give you a comprehensive look at some of London Fashion Week’s absolute best street-style moments of the Spring/Summer 2019 season.
