While Chanel’s forbidden forest scenery – complete with real autumn leaves crunching underfoot – for its Fall/Winter 2018 presentation was both surreal and surprising, the mood has lightened a bit since then. In this exclusive video, Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection radiates tenderness, youth, and luxury with a focus on stunning footwear.
As models tumble and frolic through a forest enclave, glimmers of metallic shine pierce the surroundings, reflected from the surface of gilded, glamorous over-the-knee boots. Suddenly a footrace is underway, and as the models flash by, their dresses unfurl in the wind, and their slick boots – formed from oxidized gold and bronze leather – make us reconsider how functional a pair might be for the upcoming season.
Karl Lagerfeld’s design philosophy for Chanel is simple, “Chanel, it’s life itself, clothes that have a possibility of life.” Here he demonstrates what he means by putting Chanel’s designs through a litmus test of activities. Mostly, we’d consider wearing eye-catching, thigh-high Chanel boots to an A-list function, but for a dash through the forest? Naturally! While the over-the-knee style forms the nucleus of Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection, there are shorter versions of the boots that are equally fetching, as well as pointy, witchy little brogues that couldn’t be more perfect for the cooler months.
