Her confidence, acting prowess, wry sense of humor, and gravity-defying figure are the stuff of legend. At the age of 80, she doesn’t look a day over 50 – if anything, she simply gets better as the years stretch on. She is magnetic, robust, even sexy in the hit tv series Grace and Frankie, which had literally everyone on earth Googling her age. Now, she’s back on the silver screen as a sizzling member of the romcom Book Club. We can only be talking about one formidable woman, and her name – in case you haven’t already guessed – is Jane Fonda.
Established in 1946 as a means to unite the international film industry, the Cannes Film Festival has been around for 72 years. Annually, it attracts the biggest names in film to the French Riviera, where the red-carpet walk has turned into something of a media extravaganza. This year, in particular, we noticed a huge uptick in supermodels making appearances in nearly-nude dresses alongside indie darlings and Hollywood starlings turning heads on the way to some of the hottest premieres of 2018.
And yet, amid all of the lithe figures and body-conscious silhouettes, it was Fonda that truly slayed. In years past, she has consistently outshined her much younger peers in fit-like-a-glove dresses that featured dipping necklines and strategically placed cut-outs. This time around, she swept down the red carpet in a glittering, beaded gown and duster by Valentino, looking every inch the regal maven. She appeared at the Sink or Swim premiere alongside Marion Cotillard in a stunning black gown by Givenchy Couture. At the Trophée Chopard event, she wore a splendid ivory suit made by Alberta Ferretti, which she finished with a diamond-encrusted belt. Like the actress herself, her style moments were unstoppable.
In the gallery below, we take a moment to look back and appreciate all of the times Jane Fonda stole the spotlight at Cannes.
