Once again, the French Riviera is flooded with the who’s who of the international film world for the annual Cannes Film Festival. Hotly anticipated films like Solo: A Star Wars Story (starring Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover) and the mysterious Spanish-language drama Everybody Knows (starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem) are driving major interest in this year’s festival, as are the works of edgy directors like Spike Lee, Lars Von Trier, and Gaspar Noé.

Also of significance is the jury line-up this year, which features a poised and elegant Cate Blanchett as its president, as well as the formidable presence of Ava DuVernay, Kristen Stewart, Burundian singer Khadja Nin, and Léa Seydoux. In the wake of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, female representation on the jury is at an all-time high. With all eyes on the Cannes red carpet, stunning looks took center stage, but what delighted and surprised us was just how many Arab names were behind the designs.

We counted beloved favorites like Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad, as well as emerging names like Ashi Studio, Lebanon’s Jean-Louis Sabaji and Dubai’s Michael Cinco. Additionally, we saw some stars deepening their relationship with couture houses like Armani Privé, which saw Blanchett revisit one of her favorite designs: a lacy black gown that she first wore back in 2014. See all of the best red-carpet looks from the 2018 Cannes Film Festival (so far) in the gallery below.
