When the majority of people consider their Ramadan wardrobes, they think about abayas, kaftans, and other traditional attire. However, young, forward-thinking designers from the Middle East have been rethinking this mindset, developing new and contemporary looks that are covetable even outside the holy month. From the beautiful minimalism of Bouguessa to the striking symbology of Azza Fahmy’s jewelry, discover the best Ramadan 2018 collections by some of our favorite regional brands.

Bouguessa

Minimalists are naturally drawn to the clean lines, lightweight fabrics, and sophisticated tailoring of Bouguessa, a Dubai-based brand started by Faiza Bouguessa in 2013. Its abaya-themed collections are so beautiful that they’re worn by stars like Beyoncé and Izabel Goulart. For Ramadan 2018, Bouguessa produced six styles with sculptural sleeves and beautiful draping that are available in four different colorways.

Sarah's Bag

If you favor expressive accessories that are unique in their design, Sarah’s Bag ought to be your new go-to. For Ramadan 2018, Sarah’s Bag produces a gorgeous collection of clutches, pouches, and evening bags that celebrate zelij, a breathtaking Islamic art form of mosaic tile work. Influenced by the décor of Morocco and the Muslim palaces of Spain, the pattern is painstakingly hand-beaded onto bags with multi-colored palettes to stunning results.

SemSem

Celebrities and “It” girls can’t get enough of emerging label SemSem, and neither can we. While traditional styles are a big part of Ramadan dress codes, this brand thinks outside the box by taking its main collections and recreating the looks with longer hemlines, higher necks, and longer sleeves while keeping fabrics light and fresh. That way, you can rock an of-the-moment look while still respecting the holy month – and this versatile collection has major mix-and-match abilities.

Azza Fahmy

After seeing so many collections over the years, we can be hard to impress, but the Azza Fahmy Ramadan 2018 collection of fine jewelry halted us in our tracks. With stunning multi-media construction featuring Arabic symbology, it’s safe to say we’ve never seen pieces like this before. They include earrings that feature the seal of the Ottoman Empire, Egyptian calligraphy, traditional projecting windows known as mashrabiyas, and other intricate details that are unique to the Arab world.

SH Studios

When the temperatures reach insufferable heights, reach for one of the ultra lightweight abayas by SH Studios to cool off. Inspired by the Japanese kimono, they are cut with generous sleeves that allow plenty of air circulation. Although they are voluminous and breathable, they’re still tailored beautifully and flatter the silhouette with cleanly draped lines.

All Things Mochi

All Things Mochi searches for design inspiration around the world to craft its wonderfully embroidered collections, but for Ramadan 2018, it found artisans right in our own backyard of Sharjah. Working with indigenous women who are experts in talli embroidery, the label has created a Ramadan collection filled with delightful textures.

In an exclusive interview with Savoir Flair, designer Ayah Tabari shared, “I really wanted to work with an organization in the region and help raise awareness internationally for the talent and craftsmanship that is on our doorstep. This collection is very sentimental to me as I feel that it unearthed from the time I have spent in the Middle East. Even though I studied abroad, Ramadan is a very important time, so it was only natural to incorporate parts of my heritage and upbringing into my designs.”

Endemage

Metallic embroidery motifs inspired by Indian henna designs and firework celebrations during Eid are the inspiration behind the gorgeous Ramadan 2018 collection by Oman-based brand Endemage. Light draping, flowy silhouettes, and a cheerful color palette make this one of our personal favorites of the season.

Shop the Endemage Ramadan 2018 collection at The Cartel showroom in d3, Voguish in City Walk, and Tryano in Yas Mall.
