Defining moments come around once in a blue moon, but when they happen – when lightning strikes – the moment becomes legendary. For Saint Laurent, it happened during the brand’s Spring/Summer 2018 presentation. In the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, designer Anthony Vaccarello took the strong foundation he had been building since he assumed the helm of the brand and erected a monument to the iconic Saint Laurent party girl.
It was one of those rare, sensational occasions in fashion that will go down in history as a defining moment – for the designer, for the brand, and for the lucky ladies who benefit from Saint Laurent’s thrilling vision. Brief hemlines, lots of leather, eye-catching feathery boots, and couture-level “cloud” dresses covered in micro studs became the stuff of legend overnight. Exemplified by “friends of the brand” (think: Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, and Rihanna), the collection is presently one of the most sought after in the world.
So when the opportunity arose for Savoir Flair to become the first publication in the Middle East to shoot that red “cloud” dress from the Saint Laurent runway, we leaped at the chance. The seminal moment called for a special model, which is why we tapped Palestinian/Syrian filmmaker and model Lana Al Beik, who has built a following on Instagram via her unique beauty and cool fashion sense.
