With Chanel’s already prolific output – which includes two Ready-to-Wear collections, two Couture collections, one Métiers d’Art collection, and one Resort collection per year – it comes as something of a shock to witness the brand’s announcement of two new lines. For the first time ever, Chanel will create a dedicated swimwear line known as ‘Coco Beach’ and a skiwear line called ‘Coco Neige’.
Inspired by Mademoiselle Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel’s love of the sun, tanning, spending time outdoors, and leisure activities by the beach, Karl Lagerfeld decided to branch into swimwear to supplement the brand’s resort offerings. Furthermore, Chanel’s ‘Coco Beach’ collections will only be available at Chanel boutiques that are naturally located at beach resorts – of which there are 26 total. This means you’ll only be able to snag them if you happen to be vacationing in likes of Saint Tropez, Monaco, or Cannes, ensuring an added aura of exclusivity to the line-up.
Although images of the inaugural collection for Summer 2018 – which will be released in June – have yet to be released, Chanel has detailed that it will include swimsuits, playsuits, dresses, and shorts featuring buttons stamped with marine anchors, iconic quilting printed onto jersey, and other signature Chanel details. Accessories will include camera cases, clutches, colorful espadrilles, and more.
July and August will see the introduction of the ‘Coco Neige’ skiwear collection, and it’s expected to receive wider distribution – although you can still pick up items from Chanel boutiques located at upscale ski resorts like Courchevel. Chanel ‘Coco Neige’ will include sportif pieces like tweed-trimmed down jackets, nylon ski pants, hoodies, and shearling boots, as well as après-ski items like cozy knits.
While Chanel has folded skiwear, après-skiwear, swimwear, and resortwear into prior collections, this is the first time the brand is doing dedicated lines. Any expansion in the Chanel universe is an exciting moment for fashion lovers, and we have a feeling this new experiment will not disappoint.
