A lot (and we mean a lot) of lookbooks cross our desks at Savoir Flair, but it’s rare that one would evoke such a powerful response from all of the editors. Hamda Al Fahim, the Abu Dhabi-based designer whom we’ve covered several times before, has just raised the bar for regional fashion with one of the most astonishing and gorgeous collections we’ve ever seen. Fall/Winter 2018 won’t know what hit it.
Created to celebrate the flapper silhouettes and ball gowns of the 1920s, Hamda Al Fahim’s extraordinary craftsmanship took eveningwear and elevated it with volume, fringe, embellishment, hand-embroidery, and intricate beadwork. Done in a feminine variety of hues, metallic lamés, and sparkly chiffons, the 20s make a roaring comeback for Fall/Winter 2018. Al Fahim shared, “In this day and age, and with fashion constantly in flux – inundated with runway innovations and fly-by-night fads – I would like to take a moment to celebrate the wonders that have flourished out of the 20th century, paying tribute to the evolution of fashion and reinventing those distinguished elements in a modern context.”
From the way she styled her models in cool, aloof sunglasses to their insouciant attitude and languid charm, we can firmly say we don’t just want to wear these looks, we want to be these women: strong, intimidating, and not one bit afraid of head-to-toe glamour.
