After a tumultuous year of hurricanes and floods around the world, Karl Lagerfeld had water on the brain for Spring/Summer 2018. Against an astonishing waterfall reconstructed in aching detail inside the Grand Palais, Chanel looked to reclaim the aquatic as a pure, undiluted inspiration point for the spring season. By refreshing old codes, Chanel touched on something both future-forward and timely for the present day.

While the story unfolded in the brand’s signature grandiose style, the real secret to the show was the whimsy and humor injected into the proceedings by Lagerfeld’s clever little plastic details. The Spring/Summer 2018 collection brimmed over with hats, PVC clutches, rain capes, fingerless gloves, rain boots, and thigh-high boots done in clear plastic. While these elements protected the body from weather’s fury, the jewelry itself mimicked the look of water, with drop earrings and crystalline beads catching the light.

In the exclusive video above, you’ll catch a glimpse of these H2O-themed accessories in action on the catwalk, as well as a look behind the scenes at arrivals and hot takes by celebrities who attended the show. Finally, you’ll find the Spring/Summer 2018 accessories range in close-up detail below.
