Centuries ago, ancient man would gaze towards the sparkling canopy above and be filled with wonder. It’s out of this wonder that humans first began to gain a curiosity about the world around them, how it operated, and what controlled everything from the elements to our emotions.
In homage to the stars and how they have come to inform our daily modern lives, Van Cleef & Arpels established its extraordinary ‘Poetic Astronomy’ watch line. Over the years, it has developed some truly astonishing interfaces, with dazzling surfaces so precisely rendered that you’ll feel like you’re stargazing every time you glance at your wrist.
At the annual invite-only Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève (SIHH), the storied watch and jewelry brand unveiled its latest additions to the ‘Poetic Astronomy’ universe with the debut of its ‘Poetic Complications’ line. First, the ‘Lady Arpels Planétarium’ watch stuns with its intricate surface, but the back of the watch is even more jaw-dropping as it features the moon and its lunar cycles. The watch illustrates the sun and nearby planets – Mercury, Venus, and Earth – which move along the watch face at their actual speed of planetary rotation. This mesmerizing watch is easily one of the world’s most unique timepieces.
In addition to the ‘Lady Arpels Planétarium’ watch, the ‘Poetic Complications’ line includes a collection of watches crafted for each zodiac symbol, depicting each associated constellation with a unique luminizing mechanism. See all 13 of these celestial beauties in the gallery, below.
