Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo of Ralph & Russo have a lot of ideas about how to make clothes that are extraordinarily glamorous, and all of their ideas are good – which is rare given that the confines of true haute couture can be cloying. For Spring 2018 Couture, the brand isn’t reinventing the wheel; instead, think of what they’re doing as metaphorically akin to an act of taking a wheel and mounting it with the coolest rims you’ve ever seen. From prismatic fully fringed gowns that moved with mesmerizing ease down the runway to tweed wiggle dresses and gowns formed from thousands of floral, chiffon appliqués, the brand served a whole lot of look.

Their cadre of A-list celebrities will no doubt be very pleased by the wide range of offerings and gorgeous finishes. In fact, out of the immense line-up, there are several gowns to muse over as Meghan Markle plans her nuptials. Ralph & Russo, after all, was the house that crafted her engagement look, and they are the only existing British haute couture house.

The show launched ostentatiously with a fully-beaded, fringe-trimmed, plunge-front kaftan. While the look may come with a lot of adjectives, this is an haute couture show, meaning there is no time like the present for a maison to prove its capabilities, to fulfill the loftiest superlatives, and to exceed expectations. Out next came embroidered asymmetrical column gowns trimmed with long fringe, as well as marabou trimmed fishnet dresses, silky minis with pink fur sleeves and turban-wrapped skirts, while florals were crafted out of pleasing swirls of pleating – the adjectives just kept coming.

Their cadre of A-list celebrities will no doubt be very pleased by the wide range of offerings and gorgeous finishes.

When tinsel fringe entered the picture, suddenly everything seemed very Viva Las Vegas, but there were also sophisticated suits in the mix to keep one guessing. From the palette to the draping to the embellishment, everything in this collection was gorgeous. It’s easy to see why royals and celebrities prefer Ralph & Russo for special occasions, and perhaps, they might have secured Markle’s interest with all of that sparkle.
