Gianni Versace is a fashion designer whose influence is still felt strongly today, due in large part to his sister Donatella Versace and her faithful expansion of his legacy. Donatella, throughout her entire body of work, has explored and evolved the iconic fashion vocabulary that her brother was known for. And 20 years after Gianni’s tragic death, his contributions to the House of Versace – from its Medusa-head emblem to a well-honed aesthetic that centers on Italian glamour, like body-baring dresses, colorful athleisure, and stacks of gold chains – are still evident in today’s collections, including the archival reprisal that just debuted for Spring/Summer 2018.

As we near the debut of FX’s new season of American Crime, which will focus on the horrific murder of Gianni near his home in Miami, a trip through his archives pays homage to his legacy and revisits some of his most powerful fashion moments.
