A big bag has big personality, not only because of its size and heft, but also because it denotes that the wearer has lots of things to stash – more so than the average woman on the go. Furthermore, when a luxury brand of Céline’s esteemed caliber decides that a big bag is the must-have item of the new year, a certain gravitas is added to the equation.

Not only is the label known for its measured, intelligent response to the sartorial needs of the modern sophisticate, but it has also become the template for just such an aesthetic – often imitated, but never duplicated. The brand’s latest bag is so big that it’s practically a secondary character, drawing the eye instantly to its ample silhouette. The polished, handsome leather exterior of the bag is smooth and free of embellishment, while its size forces a double take.

Either way you look at it, it serves both minimalism and maximalism as masters, which speaks to Céline’s incredible sense of balance when it comes to design. Included in the brand’s Spring/Summer 2018 release, pictured above, are bucket and tote versions in multiple hues as well as several size offerings including a “medium” and a “small” big bag.
