The highly anticipated Victoria’s Secret fashion show took place in Shanghai last night, and it was painstakingly beautiful. Angels – both new and old – donned their wings to walk the show. The only exceptions? Model Behati Prinsloo (who is currently pregnant) and Gigi Hadid, who still hasn’t disclosed the reason for her last-minute change of heart.
The show was split into six sections, each with its own design aesthetic, while each part was narrated by the sweet sounds of Harry Styles, Miguel, Jane Zhang, and Leslie Odom Jr. Keep scrolling to discover all the need-to-know trivia from this year’s show.
Candice Swanepoel Opened the Show
The Angel gave birth to her son just over a year ago, but by looking at these photographs, you’d never know it. Back with a bang, Swanepoel stepped onto the runway before anyone else, wearing punk-inspired Balmain designed by Olivier Rousteing.
Bella Hadid Got Her Wings
Bella Hadid made her VS debut just last year, but this time round, she got an in-your-face set of wings – in the Victoria’s Secret world, that’s a pretty big deal.
Ming Xi Took a Tumble
For model Ming Xi, this year’s show was fifth time unlucky as she took a pretty nasty fall on the runway. However, it wasn’t her tumble that made headlines. Instead, Xi was commended for maintaining her beautiful smile throughout the whole thing. The show must go on!
Lais Ribeiro Wore the $2 Million Bra
This year, the honor of wearing the prestigious ‘Champagne Knights Fantasy Bra’ went to Brazilian beauty Lais Ribeiro. The gold detailing perfectly complemented her caramel-toned skin, and she looked flawless with a capital F.
Harry Styles Wore Pastels
It wasn’t just the girls who rocked the runway as British pop sensation Harry Styles opted for a brave fashion choice, too. His mint-toned suit reminds us of a costume out of a 1950s movie – and we kind of dig it.
Alessandra Ambrosio Blew a Goodbye Kiss (Maybe)
After consecutively walking in 17 Victoria’s Secret shows, rumor has it that Alessandra Ambrosio is set to hang up her wings. To finish this show, the model blew the audience a kiss, leading to speculation about it being her goodbye gesture.
Balmain Debuted Its Designs
Creative Director Olivier Rousteing revealed his elaborate designs for the VS runway last night. The narrative was clear as plaid, studs, hardware, and leather were used on each creation to exude pure rebellion. The accompanying lingerie will be sold in VS stores this week.
Karlie Kloss Returned
The 6’1 model was practically part of the Victoria’s Secret furniture from 2011 to 2014 and, after a three-year hiatus, she returned to the runway as a platinum-haired goddess.
