The great thing about sale shopping in this day and age is that luxury is literally at your fingertips. You no longer have to drive your car, enter a frantic store, or even carry a bag in quest of your perfect item. In fact, the only thing you need is a WiFi connection and your add-to-cart finger. Sure, the experience of psychical shopping can be fun if you have time on your side (and the store hasn’t been overturned in sale madness), but when you’re in a rush, nothing beats the fact that you can eliminate the unnecessary with filters or even alter a search according to your budget.
With all this considered, it’s hard for the avid shopper to grumble at the prospect of a package making its way to your home before you’ve even stepped out of bed. This being said, I understand the fear felt by dedicated mall-goers when it comes to sale shopping – particularly when faced with so much abundance. In light of this, Savoir Flair sat down exclusively with Andres Sosa, online shopping expert and Executive Vice President of Sales at The Outnet, for his top tips on how to make the most of online features and never be disappointed again.
Read the News
Subscribe to newsletters. Any good online store will send regular e-mails, ensuring you don’t miss out on promotions, further markdowns and exclusive sale previews. You’ll also be the first to know about new collections.
Know Your Timings
Get to know the sale season schedule. For sales, every big e-tailer will launch their holiday sale around the same time each year, so mark it in your calendar if you’re serious about bagging a bargain.
Make a Lust List
If the website offers a “saved items” or “wish list” function, use it. Speaking of The Outnet, Sosa reveals, “This helps you to create your ultimate shopping list. The Outnet notifies customers when items in their wish list are selling out, so they don’t miss their chance to buy.”
If you’ve downloaded a shopping app, make sure to switch on your push notifications and alerts in your preferences. This way, you’ll be the first to hear about the sale, and further markdowns. You’ll also be able to shop wherever you are.
Get It or Regret It
Like stores, many websites offer a “last chance” section, where you’ll find items that only have one size left. “Be sure to visit the Last Chance To Buy section on The Outnet. Here, you can find a unique piece before it’s gone for good,” explains Sosa.
But First, Filter
Filters are everything. There’s nothing worse than scrolling for hours, eventually finding a dream item, only to realize it’s sold out in your size. Make filtering by your clothing and shoe size the first thing you do when you visit an online store. And if you want to get really specific, you can add color and category preferences, too.
Follow the Crowd
It’s good to be a follower! “Our social media channels are a really great source of inspiration. The team styles and curates amazing products, all of which are available to buy online,” explains Sosa.
Lastly, watch out for savings on exclusive collaborations or capsule collections, as this is a great way to get your hands on a piece that not all of your friends will have – and at a discounted price. “At The Outnet, we have collaborated with some fantastic designers including Charlotte Olympia, Matthew Williamson, and Oscar de la Renta over the years. This offers the shopper a chance to purchase one-of-a-kind pieces that are only available on our site,” concludes Sosa.
