We are so ready to put the summer behind us. As August sizzles to a close, Pre-Fall and Fall/Winter 2017 looks are starting to arrive on retail shelves and, with that, the anticipation of stepping into some fresh new threads for the season.
While you begin to eye your closet with new trends in mind, be sure to hang on to the following as they have proven staying power for the coming season: anything ruffled, anything with a statement sleeve, anything with a “cold shoulder”, anything metallic, and anything oversized.
For the fashion obsessed, the fall/winter runway shows seem like they happened ages ago – therefore, even fashion professionals feel like it’s time for a refresher on forthcoming trends. Keep an eye out for the following six as you shop for new wardrobe essentials. Not only do we have some great runway visuals to accompany each trend, but we’re also pointing you in the right direction as far as pieces to invest in at a range of price points.
Move over millennial pink! As our astute Fashion Editor, Shannon-Paris Cross, recently pointed out, the number one color trend of Fall/Winter 2017 is far and away the color red. A crimson tide washed over the runways from New York to Paris, and dozens of designers made sure to feature this vibrant hue in a variety of covetable styles.
With Americana surging on the runways, you’re able to take your pick of crochet, quilting, macrame, and collaging this fall/winter season in order to add a touch of true craftsmanship to your look.
The New Gingham
Gingham is arguably one of the hottest patterns of 2017, but there’s a new contender in town who’s vying for top spot (pun totally intended): polka dots. These fetching circular patterns add a hint of geometry to cool wrap tops, asymmetrical dresses, and accessories this season, so be on the look-out.
If you were to measure a trend by sheer volume of runway appearances alone, suits would reign as the top trend of 2017. However, in the Middle East this look is best left for the tiny window of cool weather we get in January/February, so you may want to hold out on this one. If you’re dying to suit up anyway, shop the cool pieces in our edit below.
A surprising amount of springtime florals made their way onto the Fall/Winter 2017 runways, so much so that they could hardly be ignored. In fact, florals for the cooler months are so popular that nearly everyone did a version: from wallpaper/tapestry-style prints to embroidered versions.
All Velvet Everything
Velvet was a ubiquitous present on catwalks across Fashion Week, and the sultry fabric was tailored and styled in a surprising number of ways. From cut-out wrap dresses and suits to wide-leg trousers and billowing tops, this touchable texture is the wardrobe hero you’ve been waiting for.
