When mulling over your accessory collection in the mornings – debating which piece will add the finishing touch to your outfit – does a hat ever come to mind? Probably not. At one time, leaving the house without a hat or headpiece would have been like walking out without any shoes on, but by the 1980s, the accessory had practically become extinct – until now.

No longer reserved for weddings, races, or the beach, the hat is fast becoming the accessory to invest in. And, for Fall/Winter 2017, there’s one style in particular that is set to be the must-have piece of the season. The newsboy cap (sometimes referred to as “baker boy” or “schoolboy” hat) is a piece made popular in the 1910s and 1920s, typically worn by working-class boys who would deliver newspapers. Today, however, it’s the hat of choice for celebrity trendsetters and Insta-girls alike, including Negin Mirsalehi, Kendall Jenner, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

After its 21st century makeover, the cap is now finished in pinstripes and leather, creating a stand-out piece that exudes confidence and separates the men from the boys, sartorially speaking. As the pre-fall collections start to drop, online fashion giants are championing the cap, and Savoir Flair predicts it won’t be long before it becomes a front-runner in your accessories collection.
