To be overwhelmed is to watch a Dior Couture creation come to life. Indeed, the intense craftsmanship that went into every square inch of Dior’s Fall 2017 Couture collection is nothing short of astonishing. While this is an honor often reserved for the house’s inner circle and a lucky few members of the industry, we’ve got good news for you, dear fans of fashion. Savoir Flair has been granted exclusive access to the making of two of Dior’s most jaw-dropping gowns, which you can see come to life in the videos below.
The ‘Royaume d’Amour’ look features painstakingly embroidered surfaces that depict an imaginary land first envisioned as an original drawing from the Dior maison. The video breaks the gown down by sections, showcasing how each area of the “map” is stitched with microscopic chains in different sizes and thickness to give it vintage texture. From the Sea of Love to the Kingdom of Love – and all points in between – this gown comes to life in spectacular fashion via the talented hands of Dior’s petites mains.
A second look called the ‘Tarot’ is a magnificently structured robe featuring extraordinary medieval-inspired embroidery. ‘Tarot’ guides us straight into an enchanted past where the talismans of the fortune-telling card game become couture artifacts. Embossed with elaborate embroidery, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s own tarot deck becomes a signet of her aesthetic, personified in couture form. This look is also a nod to the house founder, Christian Dior, and his particularly superstitious sensibilities.
