There’s nothing like a 45-degree Middle Eastern weekend to remind you that, yep, it’s definitely still summer out there. And with the temperatures not set to cool down for another (gruelling) couple of months, there’s really nothing else to do but invest in the cult swimwear brand currently sweeping social media, Hunza G.
You may recognize the signature crinkle-stretch fabric from when the Hunza label first shot to fame in the mid-eighties, after appearing on Whitney Houston in her How Will I Know video or designing Julia Roberts’ famous blue-and-white mini dress in Pretty Woman. Now being championed by the likes of Emily Ratajkowski and Suki Waterhouse on their latest beach breaks, the 2017 collection of sorbet colors and girly details is developing quite the following – 30 years later.
The iconic brand was recently re-launched as Hunza G by creative director Georgiana Huddart. She collaborated with the original founder, Peter Meadows, to create a collection that brings a modern touch to the brand without losing the iconic 80s aesthetic. The rise of eye-wateringly high-cut swimwear is a trend embraced by celebrities in particular, but Hunza G’s (super-flattering) one-size-fits-all quality means the silhouette is now accessible for, well, all. And the best part? The pieces work just as well for the beach as they do layered for the evening, proving exactly why the brand is as huge a hit today as it was in 1984.
Most recently, Huddart collaborated with long-time best friend and fashion editor Pandora Sykes to create a capsule collection inspired by Essex, England, where they met. Each piece has a typical “Essex girl” name (they are literally called Sharon and Tracey) and features fun finishing touches like bows and peplum details.
Still made in London, the swimwear collection has now launched on Net-a-Porter, meaning the pieces you’ve been double-tapping on Instagram are finally available in the UAE. Browse the gallery of celebs who love the label and shop their favorite pieces, below.
