Omani designer Buthaina Al Zadjali launched her kaftan and abaya fashion label Bthaina in 2010 in order to recreate traditional Omani craftsmanship. Like many young designers, she is part of a new generation that seeks to preserve the past, by protecting and redeveloping artisan craft. In so doing, Al Zadjali unwittingly stumbled on a breathtaking formula for creating the most elegant and eye-catching kaftans and abayas that transcend cultural boundaries to appeal to an international client.
For Resort 2017, Bthaina focuses on Omani antique silver work, with stunning creations that marry Arabic silhouettes, geometric embroidery, and delicate embellishment. Each look is woven with metallic gold wires that recreate traditional Omani patterns, while relying on sequins and a pastel palette to modernize it.
Since these gorgeous pieces are so ideal for Ramadan and forthcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations, we asked Bthaina’s designer, Al Zadjali, to share her personal Eid dressing tips. She tells Savoir Flair, “It’s all in the details! I love embellishments, so you’ll always see me in something with embroidery. The cuts should be flowy and comfortable, yet modern and flattering. Invest in timeless pieces that transcend seasons. I prefer to go for soft, romantic colors, allowing the embellishments to really stand out. Finally, create a signature look and just have fun with it.”
