There is something terrifying about the unknown, and that includes buying fine jewelry. For first-timers, the experience can be both intimidating and overwhelming. Jewelry-savvy Dana Al Khalifa of The Overdressed has addressed that lack of knowledge – and subsequent gap in the market – by establishing The Overdressed Pavilion. “We bring together a selection of jewelers who produce beautiful pieces at prices that the young working woman can afford. We want women to be able to wear the jewels that they work so hard to purchase. What’s the point of storing jewels away for special occasions?” says the Bahraini style influencer.
The Overdressed Pavilion, which is heading to Kuwait as part of the annual Jewellery Arabia exhibition from April 19th to 22nd, will feature a curated selection of precious jewels from brands like Suzanne Kalan, Nuun Jewels, and Bhansali. “When it comes to purchasing jewelry, wearability is one of my top and most important points. After all, you invest so much time and money in finding the right piece. For me, it’s important that what you end up buying can be worn often, with a lot of happiness, and without worry – “Jewelry that’s not for the safe” as we like to call it at TheOverdressed Pavilion.
All of our jewelers who are showing at TheOverdressed Pavilion during Jewellery Arabia, like Suzanne Kalan and Bhansali, pride themselves on creating beautiful jewelry that is wearable. From Suzanne Kalan, I find the pear-shaped diamond earrings very beautiful and wearable day and night, and I love the round topaz and diamond earrings from Bhansali.”
“I cannot stress the importance of finish. You could have the most beautiful stone and design, but if the finish isn’t 110 percent beautiful, then there goes your stone and your design. We’re so proud that, at TheOverdressed Pavilion, all of our jewelers manufacture their jewels at such high standards in Los Angeles and Paris.”
“I love a diamond, and I challenge you to find a girl that doesn’t! But when it comes to buying jewelry, diamonds are pretty neutral, so choosing a piece in diamond as opposed to any other stone will allow you to wear it so much more often. You could also wear it with more different outfit options than, say, an opal.
From Nuun Jewels, we love the stackable ‘B’ collection rings – you can buy one or three, and they’re just beautiful on. Bhansali has an array of classic colors, but my favorite will always be the quartz and diamond mix because of the lasting effect of such a neutral piece.”
“Style is what you identify yourself with in terms of jewelry. I’m a ring and earrings girl, and I know those are the styles that I will wear with ease. That’s why I go for a style that I know I’ll wear often when I do look to purchase something.”
“This is such a huge factor for me as I have very high respect for the creative process. All of our jewelers at TheOverdressed Pavilion in Kuwait are incredibly different to one another, and unique in their designs. Sadly, though, there are so many knock-offs in the market, so always ask for an authentication certificate with your purchase. Any legitimate jewelers will be happy to provide one.”
