The funny thing about purposefully “ugly” looks is that they’re so successful they have ironically become dominant trends in 2017. For example, Gucci “granny” glasses and ‘Princetown’ slides are intentionally unattractive, but there is something about not caring about traditional modes of beauty or style that screams cool in its own, unique way.
However, some fashion trends are so revolting as to be absolutely unpardonable, and you probably won’t be surprised one bit that many of them originated in the 1980s and 1990s. Unfortunately, fashion is cyclical, which means they sometimes find a way to come back in new and even more horrendous ways. While we can excuse plenty of terrible trends, these are the ten that we absolutely hope to never see again – ever.
Ridiculously Expensive Ironic Tees
We’re looking at you, Vetements.
The Extreme Cold Shoulder
We’re sensing a pattern with trends that have “extreme” in their name.
Ultra Low-Rise Jeans
We love you, Kiera, but this is a strong no.
Swayback Wedge Boots
Horrible to behold. Impossible to walk in.
Ed Hardy Bling
Kim Kardashian may be a trendsetter now, but back in the day, she was a trend victim. Ed Hardy, FTL (for the loss).
