For fashion designer Yasmin Al Mulla, a love for design goes well beyond clothing. “Being a designer, it was the perfect thing to do. I believe that no one can deliver the message you want to express from your space except yourself,” says Al Mulla. Step into her YNM headquarters in d3, which has been entirely designed and envisioned by the ready-to-wear designer, and it will leave you feeling a bit nostalgic.
A mid-century feel (think: the Mad Men era) mixed with clean and minimal décor results in a working space that is ultra sophisticated. “I have designed the office with the intention of it being bright, fresh, and relaxing.” In the building process, Al Mulla made sure that she has the entire production team with her in-house, dividing the space into two and creating a different ambience for each.
“The office area has more of a luxury feel through marble touches, contemporary interiors, and statement accessories. The production area has more of an industrial theme, with its high, raw ceilings painted in black, cement flooring, and light-gray walls,” Al Mulla tells Savoir Flair. She adds, “I enjoy zoning out in the office, especially before working on any new collection. I need to literally zone out to research, create, and produce.” Scroll through to see Yasmin Al Mulla’s HQ and marvel at her display of artistic flair.
“I didn’t struggle to find the perfect meeting table. Vitra is one of my favorite labels for modern and artistic interiors. Ten years from now, they’ll still be in style!”
“I always pay attention to the tiniest details. I created these wooden dividers with paper in my desired size before handing the actual measurements over to the contractor. I love wooden dividers in dark-brown stripes – they can transform your entire space!”
“A modern take on the reception area. We offer private viewing by appointments as well, so I made sure to offer a luxurious yet contemporary experience.”
“A collection of special fashion accessories: a real Balenciaga sketch from 1953, an authentic Chanel advertisement from 1943, a framed photo of our best-selling dress as well as favorite scents, coffee table books, and other objects – all very sentimental and very dear to me.”
“I can work freely with light and pastel shades – that’s why you’ll rarely find any bright pieces in my collections. I believe in classic colors and always make sure to design things that can be worn 20 years from now. This can also explain the fact that my closet is 80 percent white. I just can’t stand bright colors!”
“The clothing rack and marble side table were designed by me. I went through the entire process, from sketching and taking measurements to even choosing the marble type. I love adding a personal touch to everything, not only my clothes.”
“A selection of my favorite coffee table books; most of them are gifts from the labels. The Christian Louboutin one was signed by him during his first trip to Dubai a few years back.”
“I wanted to keep my office very simple. As it always gets busy with the textiles and moodboards of each season, I loved the idea of adding this mid-century desk to add a classic vibe to a very modern office.”
“Each and every item is dear to my heart in a different way. It’s very important to have a desk styled to reflect your personality without saying a word.”
“Most of the objects on my desk are being used in a different way – a total opposite of their actual purpose. I use this white marble board as a paper-cutting base instead of those boring green ones with numbers, while it’s actually a kitchen cutting board! The Cartier jewelry box is to hold Post-It notes etc.”
“One of my favorite accessories in the office is this classic Baccarat vase, which is timeless and beautiful. I believe that Baccarat is to fine crystals what Cartier is to fine jewelry – always my favorite, always outstanding!”
“I love interior styling very much; I believe that combining different objects from different styling categories can create a unique outcome.”
“Another part of the production area. It’s very important to me to have my production team in-house. Being an online store, all inventory should be available to ensure the fastest delivery experience.”
“The production area reflects the same feel of our office section, yet with a massive twist. I used the same wall colors and cement flooring, yet twisted all other elements to have more of a creative, raw, and industrial feel. No colors!”
“Being a person who loves to cook, bake, and create super healthy meals, the kitchen is so important to me! I made sure to beautify the office pantry as much as possible. Styling it with marble, wooden cutting boards, and dried flowers are ways to reflect how much I love organic food.”
