It’s raining and industry insiders are exhausted after four weeks of running from show to show. But even if getting out of bed was hard this morning, the thought of missing a Balenciaga show had every fashion girl sprinting out of her hotel room faster than you could say, “Demna!” Scroll down to see what Demna Gvasalia had up his sleeve for the Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2017 show.
I Have This Thing With Balenciaga Carpets
Logo mania reigned supreme at the Balenciaga show today. A gray logo-covered carpet was rolled out in an empty parking lot at Porte de Champerret, which served as the show space.
The show kicked off with Eliza Douglas, who wore a strong coat with a deconstructed silhouette. Expect loyal followers of the brand to copy this style immediately.
Skirting the Issue
Demna Gvasalia paid tribute to Cristóbal Balenciaga and sent out models in red carpet-ready gowns. He added his avant-garde touch by rounding off the looks with colored tights.
Outside the box or out of place? As divisive as Balenciaga’s looks may be, everything still made sense – even with all the unusual accessories thrown into the mix. A wing mirror as a clutch? A sleeping bag as a tote? Why not. Highlights of the collection include the superb mix-and-match statement earrings and the latest innovation by the brand: sock shoes. You read that right. Forget sock boots next season because the next big trend according to Gvasalia is to cover your pumps with stockings – preferably with the word “Balenciaga” on them.
One word to describe Balenciaga’s beauty look? Barefaced. Pale complexions reigned supreme on the runway, with minimal makeup and fuss-free faces making for the ultimate raw and real “no-makeup makeup” look.
The New Hair Tie
Can’t find a hair tie, again? No problem because, according to Balenciaga, the humble rubber band is all you need to secure your locks next season.
