On the first day of Milan Fashion Week, the bar was set high with Gucci’s runway spectacle that left everyone ooh-ing and aah-ing. As the week nearly comes to a close, we can safely say the bar is set to stay high with Dolce & Gabbana’s influencer-backed show — true to its extravagant roots, the brand always does things in grand style. Here, the Savoir Flair editors give you a glimpse of everything you need to get excited about for the brand’s new season.
We didn’t think it was possible for Dolce & Gabbana to out-millenial itself after its wildly talked-about menswear show in January, but the brand did just that by casting the biggest roster of ladies and gents, from next-big-thing celebrity offspring to your favorite digital influencers (including Iranian blogging sensation Negin Mirsalehi and Lebanese fashion blogger Lana El Sahely, who walked wearing a black pyjama set).
Out of This World
“What would aliens look like in the D&G Galaxy?” was the running question and inspiration for the brand’s new collection. Following this week’s discovery of a new solar system, Trappist-1, not only is NASA looking far and beyond our world for inspiration, but design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are too. Aliens in crowns? Yes, please. Sticking to their brand DNA, the designers presented leopard prints and floral prints galore, but upon further inspection, Savoir Flair spotted intergalactic touches embroidered on capes and lace midi dresses.
The name dropping doesn’t just stop with the model line-up. Jamie Foxx, Lewis Hamilton, and Pamela Anderson all made an appearance on the front row.
Models Wore the Signature D&G Makeup Look
In true Dolce & Gabbana style, models were made up with the most romantic of beauty looks, with Pat McGrath and her team carrying on the continual theme of classic, almost Renaissance-esque makeup. Brining a sense of romance and a touch of divine decadence to the runway, it was as simple as creating the perfecting pairing between a rich, red lip and a cat-eye flick. Così bella!
Nope, you’re not in the TRF section of Zara — trust us on this one. Once you get closer to the accessories of the show, the supreme craftsmanship of the luxury house will give it all away. Dolce & Gabbana took all the pieces they loved in the past seasons and put them into an imaginary “millennializer” machine – featuring fuzz, bling, and everything else that millenials could possibly get excited about.
