From Dries Van Noten’s ice-encased flowers to Gucci’s pink disco set that featured over 250,000 sequins, this past Fashion Month was not only a sartorial feast, but it was also filled with delicious inspiration that spanned a diverse range of themes and decades.
If we were to present an award for the most OTT set design, it would have to be a tie between Philipp Plein for creating an enormous “Alice in Ghettoland” village and Tommy Hilfiger for constructing “Tommy Pier”, which included food stalls and carnival-themed games.
Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs looked to Blade Runner for inspiration and filled New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom with over a thousand lightbulbs to create his very own day rave. On a more whimsical note, Alice + Olivia turned a barren studio space in Manhattan into a romantic Italian garden that was adorned with ivy bushes and scattered rose petals, while the always-quirky Charlotte Olympia celebrated Brazil by presenting her Spring/Summer 2017 line alongside a performance by Copacabana dancers and models dressed as fruit.
