For Spring/Summer 2017, House of Holland celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a retrospective collection that amplifies the vibrant, youthful aesthetic of the brand, and showcases a new generation of pithy slogan tees.

“I’ll tell you who’s boss, Kate Moss” – this is but one of the many cheeky phrases that made the rounds on Fashion Groupie tees designed by a young Henry Holland prior to the launch of his career as a fashion designer. Slogan tees aren’t exactly challenging to design, but Holland’s funny, irreverent commentary caught the notice of the London fashion set, and two years after he started his shirt company, he launched House of Holland. Holland’s calling card is fun fashion, and he doesn’t shy away from the opportunity to build upon that brand cornerstone this time around. For Spring/Summer 2017, the designer sent out a dizzying, kaleidoscopic line-up of mixed gingham prairie minis, vividly printed gypsy dresses, lurid flared trousers, and a variety of appliquéd mesh looks. While styles ran the gamut from streetwear, westernwear, flamenco, and 90s raver fashion, the contiguous theme was Holland’s saturated color palette. From disco-paillettes on a hot pink two-piece that closed the show to a heady mix of floral and striped patterns, this collection was a feast for the eyes.

Ironically enough, while the presentation proved how far Holland had come as a legitimate and sought-after London designer, it was his simple, re-issued slogan tees that garnered the most attention – especially on social media. Updated for a new generation of “It” girls, this crop featured phrases like “Let’s Breed Bella Hadid”, and “I’m Yours for a Tenner Kendall Jenner”. This kind of light, self-aware mockery not only launched Holland’s career a decade ago, but it has continued – in a sea of fashion that takes itself too seriously – to be the brand’s most magnetic quality.
