The coincidence was almost too much to bare when, at today’s Michael Kors show, model Bella Hadid tripped just as singer Rufus Wainwright was belting out the word “falling” from the small stage Kors had built at the center of his Spring/Summer 2017 runway. Of course, Wainwright was referring to falling in love, not in six-inch Michael Kors heels, but nonetheless, if theatrics were what the designer had envisioned for today’s show, theatrics were certainly what he got.

Clearly, Kors did not waste time pinpointing what he believed to be the trend for Spring 2017.

In addition to melodies such as Judy Garland’s Get Happy sung by Wainwright and his six-piece band, Kors’ collection hit some seriously feminine floral notes. 3D flower embroideries appeared on satin-jersey plunge dresses (like the look worn by Kendall Jenner), crêpe de chine shorts, and wrap skirts and even popped up on oversized petal earrings. Clearly, Kors did not waste time pinpointing what he believed to be the trend for Spring 2017 – a declaration that would make any gardener’s heart skip a beat.

He did, however, take care to offset all of his fauna-tastic patterns with double-breasted coats, cashmere pullovers, and white cotton ruffled blouses, plus a few menswear-inspired khaki suits and little black stretch-tulle dresses for good measure. And let’s not forget those seriously cool bathing-suit moments, from a retro-inspired nutmeg bikini with tortoiseshell embroidery to the belted floral number worn by model and environmental activist Cameron Russell, which left us eager to head out of the garden and down to the sea.
