One of the most thrilling things about Fall 2011 fashion is the amazing variety of textures and fabrics available from the industry’s top designers. We scoured the collections exhaustively to bring you the top trends in fabrics and textures for fall/winter.
Fur is ubiquitous, but we opted for a more ethical option by rounding up the faux fur fabrics from the runway. Knitwear provides cozy comfort during those brisk winter months. Soft feathers are a stunning embellishment to any ensemble, and add a dreamy element to your look. The metallic trend ruled the runway, with nearly every top designer churning out at least one ensemble decorated with sequins, paillettes, and metallic embroidery. Fringe brought a distinctly 70s feel to several collections, while lace and velvet added a romantic but restrained Victorian feel. The real winner on the runway was the use of animal skin – leather, snakeskin, and crocodile were each presented in a variety of unique ways. Silks and satins were draped, tucked and pinned into a variety of bold silhouettes that really enhanced the use of this slick material.
