Are you one of the 43 percent of women in the region who admit that they’ve never had their body properly measured by a lingerie expert? Or do you belong to the 25 percent of women in the UAE who feel uncomfortable in their lingerie? Feeling at ease around a complete stranger invading your personal space in a cramped fitting room is not easy, but the longer you wear an ill-fitting bra, the higher the chances are of you eventually experiencing back pain and difficulty breathing.

Enter: Rigby & Peller, a renowned luxury lingerie retailer from the UK that has just landed in Dubai. Savoir Flair gave its lingerie-fitting service a try, and it was nothing short of regal. Read on for what we learned during the session – aside from how to properly wear a bra, of course.

1

At Rigby & Peller, you can expect a lingerie experience that’s fit for a queen (literally) as the store staff was trained by June Kenton, the 80-year-old Royal Corsetiere to the Queen.

2

The flagship store in Dubai Festival City carries virtually every size imaginable, from 28 to 48 for the band and from A to JJ for the cup.

3

When your bra fits properly, it feels comfortable. You naturally stand straighter, your silhouette looks smooth and uplifted, and your clothes fit and sit better.

4

Did you know that 80 percent of your support should come from the band of the bra, while the rest should be divided equally between the cups and shoulder straps?

5

When fastening a bra, use the hooks closest to the end so that you have room to adjust as bras have a tendency to stretch when you wash them.

6

To see how a bra actually looks underneath your clothes, put your top on over it in the fitting room. By doing this, you will know that a white bra will show under a white shirt. Fact.

7

Lean forward when you’re putting your bra on. Once you've fastened the hooks, stand back up and raise your arms to check that it stays in place and feels comfortable.

8

Because your bra size changes regularly and you won’t be the same bra size in all brands, the Rigby & Peller team recommends that you try on any bra you’re looking to buy and get a professional fitting done every six months.

9

In the UK, the lingerie retailer uses the 'Rigby & Peller 3D Mirror', which is a digital body scanner that can record over 140 measurements in under a minute and then translate them into a bra size. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for this unique service as it's currently unavailable in Dubai.
