Whether you’re booked to fly to a far-flung exotic destination or just enjoying a weekend getaway within the Emirates, Savoir Flair has tapped swimwear designer Melissa Odabash to share her ultimate sun saviors and beauty fixes. The internationally renowned swimwear designer has been in the industry for over a decade, providing savvy sun worshippers and jetsetters like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Kate Moss with a sublime range of swimwear and cover-ups, so who better to ask than her?
“I love big boats and being surrounded by water, so my favorite holidays are when I’m cruising off the Italian coast, especially around Sardinia. I’ll eat healthily, swim all day, and surround myself with amazing friends and family – the simple things are what make me happy,” says the designer, describing what her ultimate beach holiday would look like.
Read on as Odabash reveals exactly what to pack in your beach bag and why.
“To begin with, you’ll need some swimwear for the beach! I’d choose any piece from this year’s ‘Sports Luxe’ collection – I love it. Whether it’s swimming, biking, or paddle-boarding, I’m always active when I’m on holiday and I think the swimsuits are perfect for any water sport. They’re designed to be durable, yet fashionable. I’m also a huge advocate of white bikinis; they look great on everyone.”
“I’d have to make sure I pack my ‘Naomi’ gold crochet kimono. The color looks so striking against a tan and it’s so versatile – I’ve also worn it with jeans at night and gotten so many compliments. A classic style that I love and produce every year is the triangle-style ‘Miami’ bikini, but I’ll always do it in different fabrics, colors, and prints to keep things interesting.”
“A hat is such an important accessory to bring to the beach. Not only does it complete an outfit and protect you from the sun, but it also helps to hide a bad hair day! These days, I love wearing my new fedora style as there are so many colors to choose from.”
“Sun protection is a must in your beach bag and, when it comes to my face, the best sunblock I’ve tried is by Rita Rakus. It smells amazing and doesn’t make me break out.”
“I always carry a product to help shield my hair from the sun’s rays and the Phyto ‘Phytoplage Protective Sun Veil’ spray works wonders! I always spritz it over my hair before hitting the beach as salt water can dry out your hair so much.”
“A few beauty essentials are always thrown in my bag as you never know where you may end up going after the beach. At the moment, you’ll probably find a Vita Liberata self-tanner, Vaseline with rose and almond oil, Dr. Sebagh rose oil, and Guerlain BB tinted foundation, blush, and bronzer.”
“Sunglasses are a beach essential and I’m never without a pair. More recently, I’ve actually been testing out some samples for my own collection, which I’m launching next season. The problem is there are so many chic styles that I find it hard to choose just one.”
“Even when I’m on holiday, I always try to stay healthy by taking a breakfast shake to the beach each morning. I always use Elle Macpherson’s ‘The Super Elixir Nourishing Protein’ with whatever else I’m putting in as it gives you so much energy and helps with alkaline balance – once you try one, you’ll notice the difference so quickly!”
“Estee Lauder’s ‘Bronze Goddess’ smells like summer in a bottle, so I always keep it in my bag to spritz on. It’s really versatile and works for both the day and night, which I love.”
