Saudi designer Nora Al Shaikh didn’t have to look far to find inspiration for her Fall/Winter 2016 collection. Having recently moved to Jeddah to open her design studio, she wanted to reconnect with her Saudi heritage and cultural roots. Inspiration for her ‘Empty Quarter’ collection found her when she began to immerse herself in the city’s vibrant contemporary art scene. “I wanted to capture the relaxed cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city in this collection,” notes the designer. Built on clean architectural lines and in a rich color palette of warm gold, dusty rose, and ochre red that reflects the sunrises and sunsets of the Arabian desert, the ‘Empty Quarter’ collection features wardrobe separates in organza and chiffon with unexpected cutouts, which Al Shaikh cleverly layered and styled to achieve slouchy but smart, laid-back but luxe, day-to-night looks.
