While The Fortress and The Eclipse might sound like an episode of Game of Thrones, it’s actually something way more tangible and yet just as exciting.
Following her success in fashion, Emirati designer Maryam Omaira decided to try her hand at fine jewelry, launching not one but two collections this week. “The inspiration to start my jewelry collections came when I wanted to gift my mother something special, something she could always wear. Therefore, I combined the beauty and style of old Arabic culture with a modern twist to make it last. The pieces are for all ages and are timeless; they can be handed down from mother to daughter,” Omaira tells Savoir Flair exclusively.
‘The Fortress’, originally created for her mother on the occasion of Mother’s Day, uses the structure after which it is named as a symbol of strength, protection, and security. Available in both gold and silver, the rings, bracelets, and necklaces offer a translation of the iconic Emirati fortress in the form of unique fine-jewelry pieces.
‘The Eclipse’, an extension of Omaira’s FW15 couture collection, explores the ideas of light and shadow, sheer luminescence, and radical contours. The collection features Mother of Pearl, pink opal, rose gold, and diamonds and plays on fashion’s current obsession with all things monochrome. This pared-down jewelry look also means a timeless addition to your accessories closet. “As a couture designer, almost any design I create represents couture in its details, whether it’s a gown or jewelry. For ‘The Eclipse’ collection, I adapted folds, layers, and structures that I experimented with in my gown collections to create three-dimensional jewelry designs,” Omaira explains.
