For Fall/Winter 2016, Abu Dhabi-based Emirati designer Hamda Al Fahim turned to the fluid beauty of fairies and other graceful, magical forest creatures for inspiration, plucking her ideas straight out of a fairytale book. The result is a swoon-worthy collection of absolutely dreamy and enchanting gowns.
Hamda Al Fahim’s design team made use of delicate materials like tulle, chiffon, and silk in a soft-hued, pastel palette of lavender, pale yellow, light peach, and pistachio. Speaking exclusively to Savoir Flair, Al Fahim reveals, “We created texture by using different materials such as handmade organza and chiffon flowers for the appliqués, as well as fully ruffled plissé tulle and even transitioning shades of lavender feathers. The silhouette for this collection was flowy and fluid – think: cascading long tulle sleeves, bell sleeves, and gathered sleeves. We also experimented with various pleating techniques around the body. The silhouette was inspired by the idea of a modern fairy, wearing magical pieces that enhance her elegance and grace.”
