Beirut-based accessories label Vanina re-writes ethical chic for its Fall/Winter 2016 collection, which it is aptly calling its latest “ethical-luxury project”. Titled ‘Conserved’, the collection is the result of a collaboration with Lebanese NGOs Arcenciel and Sawa that aims to produce zero-waste pieces in rural communities and refugee camps around Lebanon, breathing new life into humble tin cans. The cans are used throughout the collection in every single piece.
“When hearing things like the fact that one recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for three hours, it is almost impossible not to feel an immediate sense of responsibility towards the environment. At Vanina, we are constantly using fashion as a tool in discovering the synergy between fashion and sustainability. This led to ‘Conserved’, our latest collection, which proposes a luxurious afterlife for tin cans,” shares Tatiana Fayad, Co-Founder and Designer of Vanina.
