Dubai-based, Syrian-born couturier Rami Al Ali welcomed guests over the weekend in the capital for an intimate unveiling of his Spring/Summer 2016 Couture collection in the Rosewood Abu Dhabi. On the night of the opening, the designer’s guests and Abu Dhabi socialites gathered over drinks and dresses that displayed Al Ali’s exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail. The showcase, which will run until the 24th of March, is set in the lavish Majlis lounge of the luxury hotel. Visitors can expect to find his glittering, regal couture creations grandly positioned and juxtaposed against architect Viktor Udzenija’s industrial set.
Speaking exclusively to Savoir Flair, Al Ali discusses the unexpected collaboration with the luxury hotel, saying, “It was great collaborating with Rosewood Abu Dhabi. The similarity of both brands’ ethos lead us to this wonderful partnership. Rosewood Hotel has done a similar collaboration with Vera Wang in New York, so we were excited to start in the Middle East and extend this collaboration to other Rosewood hotels around the world.”
Talking about his collection (the same one he showcased during Paris Couture Week in January), he shares, “I was inspired by two opposing cultures – both from different eras – and combined them together to create a synthesis of historical art. I was mesmerized by the iconic decorative Moorish artistry and experimented with the historic accents with beautiful masquerade silhouettes to create something special.”
