Erdem Moralioglu has a keen sense of how to make women feel beautiful, and this collection offers plenty of evidence to that fact.

Many collections for Fall/Winter 2016 have been centered on dark, prairie gothic, bohemian styles. It was no different at Erdem this season, but this is actually a style that Erdem Moralioglu has trafficked in since he launched his eponymous label in 2005. To articulate his signature style, Moralioglu looked to Old-Hollywood cinema, more specifically how a girl might dress if she was going for a casting audition. Dressed to impress, but in modest proportions, Moralioglu’s girl favored romantic ruffles, lavish embroidery, floral prints, and raffia-woven tapestries.

Against a cinematic back-drop, clothes appeared as if they had arrived from a different decade. His graceful floral dresses were spliced with sheer panels and intersected with contrast trim, which added interesting geometry to antique fabrics. Save for a sultry neckline or strategically placed sheers, the collection had a very prim-and-proper old school style to it, replete with elbow-length leather gloves, velvet loafers, Mary Janes worn with wool socks, and more elements from a bygone era. If you’re in the mood for something a little more revealing, Moralioglu included a velvet bustier dress painted with orchid blooms. Meanwhile, women looking to make a flashy impression were given gleaming silver capes, swishy dresses embossed with velvet flowers, and two looks that were finished with stunning golden tinsel fringe.

Fashion Week rumors speculate that Moralioglu will be given Alber Elbaz‘s vacated spot at Lanvin, and he seems like a good fit. Like Elbaz, Moralioglu has a keen sense of how to make women feel beautiful, and this collection offers plenty of evidence to that fact.
