Following on the success of its inaugural edition, Design 971 continues to spotlight emerging local talent with its second pop-up concept, featuring four more regional designers: Dressaddict, IAMMAI, Dima Ayad, and Arwa Al Banawi. Along with this launch, Saudi Arabian designer Arwa Al Banawi is bringing her capsule collection, done in collaboration with Kuwaiti artist Zaina Al Hizami, known for her intriguing psychedelic artwork. Launched and showcased during Jeddah Art Week, Ego, which is the second stage of self maturity going by the Freudian theory, is a progression from Al Banawi’s Spring/Summer 2016 ‘Id’ collection.
Al Banawi shares exclusively with Savoir Flair, “It was natural to collaborate with an artist like Zaina because of the bold colors in her designs and her ability to play with someone’s mind through psychedelic prints – the same way this capsule and my Spring/Summer 2016 collection are born out of the human personality. Art and fashion are like unfinished stories and that’s what fascinates me; it’s mysterious and intriguing.”
Suit yourself and get your hands on the collection, available for the next two months, at Design 971, The Village, Dubai Mall.
