New York has spoken and the verdict for Fall/Winter 2016’s accessories is far more toned down and – dare we say it – conservative than the approach we’ve seen in previous seasons. There is a certain toughness to these accessories and a definite pared-down aesthetic; no frills or unnecessary details, a masculine feel, and minimal forms and shapes dominated the runways with a color scheme that was mainly muted. That being said, white footwear made quite a statement. Shades of pastels were also seen here and there, but there was nothing overly sweet or girly about these pieces, which were either toned down or toughened up with added studs.
What’s here to stay from the previous season? Striped bags are still in and so are flats, and it still isn’t time to wave goodbye to chokers, sock boots, small bucket bags, and velvet accessories.
