Marchesa is predictable, in that the brand can always be counted on to deliver the most jaw-dropping gowns of New York Fashion Week. The story remains the same every season, but the fabrics, embellishments, and insanely gorgeous aesthetic are what change and evolve. Marchesa’s faithful delivery of fashion fantasy has made it a go-to brand for the world’s most beautiful stars and socialites, which means, in a way, every collection is trans-seasonal as each look is destined to appear on the red carpet somewhere in the world year-round. Fall/Winter 2016’s theme centers on blossoms, in iterations both ethereal and noir, and the results are breathtaking.

Marchesa starts strong with a sheer column gown embroidered with hundreds of delicate floral appliqués, while a high collar, lampshade sleeves, and sparkling necklace help imbue the look with a regal Old-World vibe. The next look shocks, as another sheer dress takes the runway, this time scattered with blood red blossoms so precisely applied to the fabric that they appear to be painted on the body. It’s the kind of fashion moment that really gets your heart pumping. More exhilarating looks continue to astonish, as gilded gowns, filigreed mini dresses, and frocks covered in micro-beading, tinsel fringe, feathers, embroidery, and floral appliqués sweep their way down the runway. The moods differ from look to look, with no solid thesis beyond the yards of flowers that cover every dress. One is a frothy lavender chiffon number that clings to one arm and creeps around the neck to be knotted into a floral bow, while another represents the best of the cocktail genre in a sleeveless silhouette from which shocks of frosty blue feathers emerge. As always, Marchesa’s show was beautiful to behold. We can’t wait to see these looks appear on the red carpet soon.
