What unites the versatile looks and personal styles of Tyra Banks, Anna Kendrick, Sarah Paulson, and Katie Holmes? The uber-feminine designs of Marchesa, of course. For Fall/Winter 2014, the brand enjoyed a predictably star-studded front row, and the diverse lineup demonstrated how appealing Marchesa’s designs are for women of every size and background.
For the forthcoming season, design duo Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig decamped for the Scottish Highlands, showing their couture-like fare in garments that likened to lichen decay, gowns shot through with a filigree of forest colors, and dresses buried beneath raw, untreated fabrics. Gorgeously draped, amber-colored silk dresses, form-fitting gowns made of Chantilly, and looks that heaped on luxe details were some of the show’s best moments. We found edgy sophistication in an ensemble that piled on maroon marabou feathers with crystal embroidery, paillette adornment, and crimson silk draping, as well as disciplinarian domination in a pair of thigh-high, lace-up boots. As a whole, the clothes in this collection were more angelic than rustic, more Brava than Braveheart.
