Last March during Paris Fashion Week, the world was set abuzz when the Valentino show was punctuated by two unexpected cameos. Down the runway came Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) – simultaneously mugging for the cameras and signaling the return of the much-anticipated sequel to 2001’s hit movie Zoolander.
As the opening date for Zoolander 2 approaches, we were once again treated to a Valentino/Zoolander match-up when Derek and Hansel (He’s so hot right now!) appeared in the store windows of Valentino’s boutique in Rome, frozen like mannequins. Their hilarious afternoon spent posing occurred just one day after Zoolander 2’s premiere at the Hotel de Russie Garden in Rome.
What is so wonderfully wry and ironic about this moment is the unexpected relationship that the fashion parodying duo has with one of the world’s most serious fashion houses led by two of the world’s most serious and seriously respected designers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli. Zoolander exists to poke fun at the fashion industry and, instead of shunning the jabs, those in the industry have responded with delight, as if to say, “It’s about time we stopped taking ourselves so seriously!”
Zoolander 2 will land in UAE theatres on February 11, 2016.
